I'm20 and I also had this problem,'cause my middle school's bathroom even hadn't a door, and once I was frghtened by someone
rushing towards me.Then I went to college,I
felt safe and I could go.However, after an unpleasant trip,I couldnot go when there was a lot of people.Back to my schoolyard,I find it strange that when I went to the public toliet in my dormitory,I can go easily ,but I may feel a little hard when I went to the toliet next to the classroom.Everytime I go when few classmates are in the toliet , I will take a deep breath and say to myself "it's safe "if I find it hard.Usually I can go but it really
takes some time.

Hi, I'm not sure what country you are in but there is a very good International Paruresis Association with a large Womens Group.

You can recover from this Social Anxiety Disorder, especially as you are young.

I'm 16 and I've had problems with paruresis for about ten years. I don't really know where it came from, and sometimes it feels like it's getting worse. When I was little, I could go with my mom or my sisters watching me, but I couldn't go if they could hear me. After a few years, I couldn't go if anyone could see me and I still couldn't go if anyone could hear me (it's still like that.) Whenever we go out and use a public bathroom, I usually say, "I don't really have to go," and hold it until we get back home. But sometimes when I say that, my mom insists that I try to go (at which point, I begin feeling a little nervous.) If it's just me, my mom, and my sisters in the bathroom, my mom turns on the water so they can't hear me, but if other people are in the room, she doesn't because she's trying to stay out of other peoples' way. We went out to eat just a few months ago and we used the bathroom there. I really had to go and thought that I would be able to; but just as I was ready to start going, somebody went into the stall next to the one I was in. I was trying really hard, but I just couldn't pee! I think it was mostly because it was really quiet and I didn't want anyone to hear me. (But I was also pretty nervous with a complete stranger next to me.) After a few minutes, my mom told me to hurry up. Finally, I realized that I wasn't going to be able to pee, and just gave up trying and held it until we went home. I was just wondering-are there other girls out there who can't go if people can hear them? And if so, could you give me some advice on how to make it stop?
